EPIC is a contemporary musical based on Homer’s Odyssey, created by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. Spanning nine sagas and forty songs, it reimagines Odysseus’s emotional and moral journey, highlighting his transformation from hero to “monster.” This review explores how the musical's sound design and instrumental symbolism enhance themes like sacrifice, leadership, and inner conflict. The use of guitar and violin is tied to key characters, reflecting their personal evolution. Critical moments—such as the Underworld saga and Scylla’s confrontation—underscore Odysseus’s gradual dehumanization. EPIC stands as an innovative adaptation, merging classical mythology with modern musical art to explore the psychological cost of heroism.
